TOMOKO SAKAKI

Artist
Born in 1970 in Kanagawa, Japan.
Encountered a Finnish traditional ornament "Himmeli" in 2005 and became the leading person who introduced it to Japan after analyzing the geometry, racial culture and the laws of nature with a unique viewpoint.  Became interested in the animism spirituality of farmers who created such beautiful shapes.  Inherited the spiritual tradition not only the skills. Gradually, exceeded the frame of Himmeli to enter into an inherent field of creation.  From 2012, during communication with nature asking the mystery existing in daily life, a straw sculpture was created.  Materials further expanded to ramie and wood to deepen the creative skill for restoration to the natural world. SAKAKI's sculpture existing in the circulation of life ambiguates the boundaries of art and craft, primitive and future to be dissolved, turning back to the spiritual origin of creation.

美術家　1970年神奈川県生まれ　同県在住
2005年、フィンランドの伝統装飾ヒンメリと出合い、独自の観点でその幾何学形態から民族文化や自然の摂理までを読み解き、日本に紹介した第一人者となる。美しい形状を生み出した農民たちのアニミズム精神性に興味が湧き、技術のみならず精神的伝統も受け継ぐ。次第にヒンメリという枠組を超越し、固有の創造領域に入る。2012年より、生活のかたわらに宿る神秘を問い掲げて自然と対話するうち、麦藁彫刻が生まれる。さらに苧麻や木材へと素材は広がり、自然界への還元を果たす独創的手法が深まる。それは、無心に光を編む超純粋な遊びとも通ずる。生命の循環の中に存在する榊の彫刻は、アートとクラフト、原始と未来、それらの境界線を曖昧にして溶解させ、創造の精神的原点へと立ち返させる。
